Taste Block

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry, layered with notes of licorice, cocoa, and baking spice from barrel aging. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a clear line of acidity that keeps the wine lifted and focused. The fruit is pure and generous with dark berries and red currant, balanced by hints of graphite, cedar, and a touch of toast. The finish is long and polished, combining freshness with a gentle oak sweetness and a mineral edge.

Pairing Block

Food Pairing

Ribera del Duero Tempranillo pairs best when you match its firm tannins and concentrated fruit with dishes that have enough protein and savory depth, especially grilled or roasted meats and slow-cooked preparations. Herbs, smoke, and gentle spice—think rosemary, thyme, paprika, garlic, or mild chiles—act as natural bridges to the wine’s red and dark-fruit character. Avoid heavy sweetness and very sharp, high-acid sauces, and instead choose dishes with balanced acidity and a savory core so the wine’s structure and fruit stay in line.

About the Producer

Bodegas Vizcarra is based in the town of Mambrilla de Castrejón, in Spain’s Ribera del Duero DO, within the province of Burgos. The winery was founded in 1991 by Juan Carlos Vizcarra, who is a second-generation grower. His father, Pedro Vizcarra, began cultivating Tempranillo in the early 1980s. Juan Carlos shifted the family’s focus from bulk production to estate-bottled wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards.
