Tasting Notes

75% Viura, 20% Malvasía, 5% Tempranillo Blanco

This pretty wine displays clean and expressive aromas, offering lemon zest, green apple, white peach, and nectarines with subtle white flower notes and an herbal highlight. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, driven by moderate acidity and a medium-light body, with flavors that remain fresh and mirror the nose. The texture is smooth with a slight roundness, reflecting careful vinification (with some gentle lees aging), while remaining focused and precise. The finish is dry, clean, lightly mineral, and charming.

Critical Acclaim:

90 Points, Wine Enthusiast. Citrus blossoms, nectarines, and a touch of guava are carried by firm acidity through a moderate finish. Aromatic and charming. Enjoy now. — Elaine Chukan Brown

Food Pairing

This style of Rioja Blanco pairs well with dishes that combine freshness and moderate richness. Its acidity and clean profile make it suitable for seafood, poultry, and vegetable-based dishes, particularly those prepared with olive oil, garlic, or light sauces. The wine’s balance allows it to complement rather than dominate, making it versatile across a range of Mediterranean flavors, including mildly spiced or herb-driven dishes.

About the Producer

Bodegas Valdemar is a family-owned estate in Rioja DOCa with origins dating to 1889 and currently run by the fifth-generation Martínez Bujanda family. Based in Rioja Alavesa, the winery farms vineyards across multiple subzones, including Rioja Alta, working primarily with Tempranillo alongside Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, on varied soils that support a range of styles. The approach combines traditional Rioja practices—particularly oak aging in American and French barrels—with modern temperature-controlled fermentation, producing wines across the full classification system from joven to gran reserva. The Conde Valdemar range emphasizes consistency, balance, and accessibility, reflecting both the diversity of Rioja’s vineyard sources and a measured, contemporary interpretation of the region’s established style.
