Viña Sastre, founded in the early 1990s by Rafael Sastre in La Horra, is rooted in a family viticultural tradition that spans several generations in the heart of Ribera del Duero DO. While the estate itself is relatively recent, it emerged in the wake of the appellation’s establishment in 1982, which enabled growers to transition from bulk production to estate-bottled wines. From the outset, Viña Sastre has focused on traditional practices, including low yields, dry farming, and the use of old, high-elevation vineyards, with harvest decisions based on phenolic maturity. In the cellar, the wines emphasize structure and aging potential, while the Roble bottlings offer a more accessible expression that maintains the estate’s underlying focus on vineyard character.
