Koehler-Ruprecht, based in Kallstadt, is a historic estate with more than two centuries of winemaking tradition, known for its adherence to classical methods and stylistic consistency. Under longtime steward Bernd Philippi, the winery became a reference point for dry, age-worthy wines—particularly Riesling—through practices such as long fermentations, spontaneous yeast use, and aging in large neutral oak casks. Since its acquisition by Dominik Sona in 2009, the estate has maintained this approach, preserving traditional techniques and working with key vineyard sites such as Saumagen and Steinacker, both known for their limestone-influenced soils and capacity for structured, mineral wines. Farming remains labor-intensive and focused on old vines and low yields, and the estate operates independently of the VDP, reinforcing its commitment to historical practices and site-driven expression.
