Maison Kuentz-Bas, founded in 1795 and shaped by the union of the Kuentz and Bas families in 1895, is a historic Alsace estate located in Husseren-les-Châteaux, where its ten hectares of high-altitude vineyards include the esteemed grand crus Eichberg and Pfersigberg. After its acquisition in 2004 by vigneron Jean-Baptiste Adam, a long-standing advocate of Alsatian terroir, the domaine underwent a revival focused on lower yields and a return to organic and biodynamic practices. Today, under winemaker Olivier Raffin, the estate emphasizes precise, terroir-driven wines with minimal cellar intervention, reduced sulfur use, and drier fermentations for greater clarity and freshness. The range is split between the fruit-forward Tradition wines, aged briefly in oak foudre, and the more site-expressive Trois Châteaux wines, vinified in stainless steel and released after extended aging, resulting in wines that are both approachable and distinctly reflective of their origins.
