Tasting Notes

Critical Acclaim:

92 Points, John Gilman. "The 2024 Diego Seco from Bodega Los Bermejos is an excellent young wine. The bouquet is bright, precise and complex, hopping from the glass in a blend of lime, tart orange, a fine base of volcanic soils, a touch of Chablis-like straw tones, ocean breeze and a topnote of lemongrass. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil signature and grip, fine spine of acidity and a long, beautifully balanced and vibrant finish. This is a very lovely bottle. 2025-2035." John Gilman,View from the CellarIssue 117

About the Producer

Bodegas Los Bermejos, based in San Bartolomé, is a leading producer in the Lanzarote DO, known for its work with pre-phylloxera vines grown in the island’s volcanic soils. Established in 2001 in a restored 18th-century winery, the estate draws on a long local viticultural history shaped by the Timanfaya eruptions, with vineyards in La Geria planted in individual pits and protected by stone walls to withstand harsh Atlantic conditions. Working primarily with indigenous varieties such as Malvasía Volcánica and Listán Negro, the winery sources fruit from a network of small growers and emphasizes manual farming and low yields. Winemaking combines stainless steel fermentation with selective lees aging and minimal intervention, aiming to preserve varietal character and volcanic minerality. Under winemaker Ignacio Valdera, Los Bermejos has become a reference point for Lanzarote, producing a range of precise, site-driven wines that reflect the island’s distinctive environment.
