Tasting Notes

The wine shows a deep ruby color with subtle purple tones at the rim. Aromas open with black cherry, raspberry, and red currant, followed by notes of dried herbs, crushed stone, and a light savory edge. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and structured, with firm but polished tannins framing layers of dark red fruit, spice, and subtle earth. Acidity remains present and supportive, giving the wine clarity and lift. The finish is long and focused, marked by mineral tension and lingering red fruit.

Pairing Block

Food Pairing

This Marsannay is great to pair with dishes that balance freshness and savory depth. Focus on medium-weight proteins, dishes seasoned with aromatic herbs, and foods that highlight acidity or gentle char. Avoid overly rich sauces or heavy reductions, which could overwhelm its purity.

About the Producer

Founded in 1910 and now led by third-generation winemaker Bernard Bouvier, Domaine René Bouvier farms roughly 30 hectares across the Côtes de Nuits and Marsannay, with a deep focus on old-vine Pinot Noir and select parcels of Chardonnay. The estate practices organic viticulture and hand harvesting, emphasizing low yields and careful vineyard work to highlight the limestone and marl soils that define this northern Burgundy zone. In the cellar, native-yeast fermentations and a restrained use of oak allow each cuvée—from mineral, tension-driven Marsannay whites to structured, ageworthy reds from Gevrey-Chambertin—to express clarity, depth, and a strong sense of terroir. Today, René Bouvier stands as one of the benchmark producers of Marsannay and a leading advocate for the appellation’s growing prestige.
