Tasting Notes

Oceanic minerality, unsullied citrus and subtle orchard fruit notes lead to lemon zest, green pear, and white peach, followed by sea spray and crushed stone. On the palate, the wine is refreshing and focused, with a textural mineral component and crisp citrus character. Precise fruits that mirror the nose are balanced by firm acidity and a gentle lees-derived roundness, leading to a persistent finish.

Critical Acclaim:

"The 2022 Muscadet “Clisson” from Domaine de la Pépière is another absolutely great, wine in the making. These very old vines are now more than ninety-five years of age. The wine shows remarkable depth on the nose, wafting from the glass in a mix of breadfruit, green pear, ocean breeze, a beautiful base of granite minerality, white flowers, a touch of iodine and a lovely note of leesiness from the wine’s extended aging prior to bottling. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, precise and youthful in personality, with a great core of fruit, superb mineral undertow, zesty acids and impeccable balance on the long, complex and very, very classy finish. This superb Muscadet deserves at least five years in the cellar before broaching, as there are many more layers to reveal here with the passing of time! 2025-2065+." 95 points, John Gilman.

Food Pairing

Muscadet offers bright acidity, lean structure, and a clean, saline profile that make it especially suited to fresh, simply prepared dishes with coastal or herbal elements. Its crisp, understated character complements shellfish, light seafood, and vegetable-driven plates, while its clarity keeps delicate flavors focused and lifted

About the Producer

Founded in 1984 by Marc Ollivier in the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, Domaine de la Pépière is a sustainably and organically farmed estate that today manages roughly 45 hectares across granite, gneiss, and gabbro soils. Vineyard work is done by hand with low yields and careful selection to preserve the natural acidity of Melon de Bourgogne. Fermentations use native yeasts, and the wines are aged sur lie in underground tanks to maintain texture and clarity.
