Tasting Notes

Wine Notes. 80% comes from the limestone Bollenberg plot and 20% comes from the marl-limestone Saering plot.

Taste: The 2021 Domaines Schlumberger “Les Princes Abbés” Pinot Noir shows a restrained and structured profile consistent with the vintage. Aromas begin with a smoky reduction that then opens to center on red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, with subtle notes of dried herbs, light spice, and an earthy undertone. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with bright acidity and fine, lightly grained tannins.

Critical Acclaim:

92 Points, Wine Review Online, August 2024. Made from organic grapes and weighing in at a modest 12 percent stated alcohol, the lithe Domaines Schlumberger 2021 Pinot Noir “Les Princes Abbés” dances on the palate.  Like the head of Janus, it displays both the aromatic red fruitiness and leafy nuances, the hallmark of fine Pinot Noir— Michael Apstein

“A silky, developing Pinot Noir with a subtle reduction that adds an earthy edge to its profile. Dark cherry fruit shines through, accompanied by herbal and spicy nuances that give the wine a some complexity.” — Aleks Zecevic

Food Pairing

Pinot Noir from Alsace pairs well with poultry, pork, and lighter game, particularly when prepared with mushrooms or subtle herb accents. Its moderate tannin and bright acidity allow it to complement savory flavors while maintaining balance with dishes that are not overly rich or heavily sauced.

About the Producer

Domaines Schlumberger is a large, family-owned estate based in Guebwiller, with origins in the early 19th century when the Schlumberger family shifted from textiles to viticulture, focusing on steep, terraced vineyards along the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Over time, the estate expanded into one of the most significant contiguous vineyard holdings in Alsace, anchored by key Grand Cru sites including Kitterlé, Kessler, Saering, and Spiegel, each defined by distinct soils and exposures. Planted primarily to Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat, the wines emphasize dry, site-driven expression, supported by manual vineyard work and restrained cellar practices such as slow fermentations in neutral oak. In recent years, the estate has incorporated more sustainable farming methods, while maintaining a clear portfolio structure from regional wines to Grand Cru bottlings. Today, Domaines Schlumberger is considered a reference point for southern Alsace, known for wines that balance ripeness, structure, and mineral clarity within a consistent, site-focused framework.
