Description

From: Chapareillan, Savoie, Loire Valley, France
Varietal: Gamay, Persan, Mondeuse

Taste: In the glass, this wine has a deep ruby core with purple reflections. The nose opens with wild blackberry, sour cherry, and crushed blackcurrant leaf, followed by aromas of black pepper, smoked tea, and alpine herbs. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and a firm, mineral structure. The Gamay lends juicy red fruit and lift, while Persan brings a dark, spicy core, and Mondeuse adds savory tones of violets, black olive, and cracked pepper.

Pairing: This blend’s vibrant acidity, moderate tannin, and herbal-saline finish make it exceptionally versatile with food, particularly dishes that incorporate aromatic herbs, root vegetables, or charred proteins. Start with general rules: match the wine’s structure with lean proteins or grilled elements, align its acidity with lightly pickled or bitter greens, and let its alpine herbal notes accentuate the dish.

About: Famille Giachino is based in the village of Chapareillan, nestled at the foot of Mont Granier in the Savoie wine region of southeastern France. Since its founding in 1988 by Frédéric Giachino, the estate has become one of the leading voices in the natural wine movement in Savoie, renowned for its commitment to indigenous grape varieties and biodynamic farming practices. Today, Frédéric is joined by his two sons, Clément and David Giachino, who help manage both the vineyards and winemaking, continuing the family’s evolution while staying rooted in principles of low-intervention and terroir expression.
