Tasting Notes

80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc with a splash of old vines Malbec.

Critical Acclaim:

"Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Marjosse Rouge needs a little coaxing to reveal notes of cast-iron pan, crushed rocks, and dusty soil over a core of red plums, blackberry preserves, and mulberries, plus a hint of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly knit with fine-grained tannins and bold freshness supporting the nuanced black and red fruits, finishing long and minerally." 94 Points - Wine Independent.

"A touch of reduction on the nose which clears as it relaxes in the glass. This is well put together, has definition and finesse, and is punching above its weight in the appellation. Ambitious, well managed tannins and juicy red fruits; 2% Malbec completes the plantings." 91 Points - Decanter.

"This shows notes of ripe berries, vanilla, licorice, crushed walnut and cocoa. Medium-bodied with ripe, supple tannins and a creamy texture. Fruit-forward and flavorful." 90 Points - James Suckling.

"The 2020 Marjosse is a deep, flavorful wine. Black cherry, leather, spice, tobacco, leather and grilled herbs give this hearty Bordeaux a good deal of savory and earthy character to match its midweight personality." 90 Points - Vinous.

Food Pairing

Merlot-dominant Bordeaux Rouge’s supple texture, dark-toned fruit, and moderate structure make it adaptable to a wide range of savory, comforting dishes. Its ripe plum and black cherry profile complements herbs, earthy elements, and slow-cooked flavors, while its polished tannins and balanced acidity suit lean-to-moderate richness in proteins. Subtle oak spice supports dishes with roasted notes, and the wine’s overall harmony pairs best with herb-infused meats, braised preparations, and simply seasoned, elegant fare.

About the Producer

Château Marjosse is an estate located in the Entre-Deux-Mers area of Bordeaux and is owned and managed by Pierre Lurton, a prominent figure in Bordeaux wine who is also known for his leadership roles at the prestigious estates Château Cheval Blanc and Château d'Yquem. Pierre Lurton inherited the Marjosse property from his family and gradually expanded it beginning in the 1990s, acquiring additional vineyard parcels surrounding the original estate. Today Château Marjosse comprises roughly forty hectares of vines planted on clay and limestone soils typical of the right-bank side of Bordeaux.
