Tasting Notes

In the glass, it shows a bright ruby color with garnet reflections. The nose opens with sour cherry, red plum, and dried cranberry layered with notes of violet, dried herbs, tobacco, and subtle earth. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with vibrant acidity and fine, structured tannins that support a core of fresh red fruit and savory mineral notes. The texture is firm yet polished, resulting in a dry, persistent finish with lingering spice, herbs, and a lightly earthy character.

Food Pairing

Chianti Classico’s vibrant acidity, red-cherry purity, and earthy, herbal nuance make it especially suited to savory dishes with Mediterranean flavors. Its combination of bright fruit, firm yet food-friendly tannins, and subtle spice complements tomato-based sauces, grilled meats, and dishes featuring olive oil and aromatic herbs, while its structure keeps richer textures lifted. The wine pairs best with pasta al pomodoro, bistecca alla fiorentina, roasted poultry, and Tuscan-inspired plates where acidity, herbs, and gentle umami underscore its classic Sangiovese character.

About the Producer

Querciabella was founded in 1974 by Giuseppe “Pepito” Castiglioni in the hills of Chianti Classico, during a period when Tuscany was beginning to undergo major qualitative change. Originally established as a small personal project, the estate grew steadily over the following decades and became part of the broader movement that helped redefine modern Tuscan wine while remaining rooted in Sangiovese and regional identity.

Today, Querciabella is led by Sebastiano Castiglioni, continuing the family’s involvement into the second generation. The estate has become particularly recognized for its longstanding commitment to organic and biodynamic farming, positioning it among the more environmentally focused producers in Chianti Classico while maintaining a strong connection to traditional Tuscan viticulture.
