Taste & Critical Acclaim:

Producer's Tasting Note: "Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Ovello Riserva is a full bodied winee with ripe fruity aromas, balanced tannins and elegant finish. Full bodied wines with intense red fruit matched by youthful tannins and elegant finish."

"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is powerful, savory and intensely linear, in classico Ovello style, and yet it appears to have enough fruit behind its imposing tannins to develop well over the coming years. In this tasting, the Ovello feels pretty closed post bottling, but its inherent balance and qualities are there. Clean saline notes extend the finish in promising fashion." - 94 Points Wine Spectator

Tasting Notes

Critical Acclaim:

"A perfect mixed garden, with aromas of turned soil, blackberries ready to be picked, herbs fragrantly filling the air and warmed raspberries sitting in their basked weave their way into and out of the glass. Savory flavors of mixed herbs, tobacco and licorice root open the palate as flavors of cherry and marionberries pop with fresh acidity against a frame of elegant and taut tannins. *Editors' Choice* (JP)" (09/2024) 95 Points, Wine Enthusiast

"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello displays a similar youthful red color but is riper and more seductive in its floral perfume of violets, black raspberries, tea leaf, and sweet herbs. It is broader and rounder on the palate, with ripe tannins, a bit more of an expansive feel, and a touch of warmth on the finish. Its going to drink well over the next 15-20 years. (AF)" (05/2024), 95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

"The Produttori del Barbaresco 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a tighter wine with more elegant mineral definition compared to the 2020 vintage that I tasted at the same time. However, this wine is not as accessible and remains a little shy or closed at this young stage in its life. The tannins are well managed in this edition that naturally delivers more richness and concentration. It needs a little more time to shed that nervous tension. "Leafy lightness with a meaty character and earthy cherry and pomegranate notes. Firm tannins and crisp acidity on the classic, extracted palate, with massive structure, a medium body and a juicy finish." (05/2024) 93 Points, James Suckling

About the Producer

Founded in 1958, Produttori del Barbaresco is a growers cooperative that today represents more than 50 member families farming about 250 hectares across the Barbaresco appellation. The winery focuses exclusively on Nebbiolo and produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a Riserva program, and nine single-vineyard bottlings sourced from recognized crus such as Asili, Rabajà, Montestefano, and Ovello. Vineyard work follows consistent, quality-focused guidelines, and all fruit is fermented in a traditional manner with extended maceration and aging in large neutral casks. The cooperative is known for delivering clear, consistent expressions of Barbaresco built on varietal character, site identity, and long-term cellar potential.
