Tasting Notes

The 2018 Vieilles Vignes shows a dense red/purple color with bright rim with ripe, floral aromas of black raspberry with earth and citrus, very typical and beautifully concentrated "Bourgueil." The palate is ripe and dense but nicely balanced for a 2018 with deep black raspberry/cassis fruit with firm acidity and chalky minerals in the finish.

Food Pairing

The moderate tannins and bright acidity of Bourgueil wines make it well-suited to everyday savory dishes rather than heavily structured or richly sauced fare. It pairs well with charcuterie, pork rillettes, and grilled sausages, where the acidity lifts the fat and the herbal notes echo the seasonings. Roast chicken, turkey, or pork tenderloin are natural matches, particularly with simple preparations using thyme or rosemary. The wine also works well with lentils, mushrooms, and other earthy vegetable dishes common to Loire cuisine. Avoid heavily spiced foods or deeply caramelized red meats, which can overshadow the wine’s restrained structure and fresh profile.

About the Producer

Lamé-Delisle-Boucard is a historic family domaine in the Bourgueil AOC, with origins dating back to 1869 and a continuous lineage shaped by resilience through events such as phylloxera and the World Wars. Now led by Philippe Boucard, the estate spans roughly 47 hectares across multiple villages, with vineyards planted primarily to Cabernet Franc on a range of soils including gravel, sand, and clay-limestone, contributing to varied expressions of structure and minerality. Farming is organic, with hand harvesting and parcel-by-parcel vinification, while aging takes place in large, neutral oak vessels with minimal intervention. The domaine is particularly known for its extensive underground cellars and library of older vintages, reflecting a long-standing focus on producing balanced, age-worthy wines rooted in terroir rather than cellar manipulation.
