Blend: Chardonnay
From: Chataigners is a Bourgogne Blanc by classification, but with hilltops bending toward Meursault, it drinks far beyond what meets the eye. It’s an entry level style that sums up why Burgundy is all about its producers.
Lamy has been a well-kept secret, but the cat’s outta the bag, and this name is on the rise toward stardom. The domaine, started by father Hubert in 1973, is now helmed by son Olivier, who joined the ranks in 1995, during a time transformation and great growth -increasing from eight to eighteen hectares, planted over twenty appellations – for the winery. Olivier’s time working and tasting elsewhere brought new dimension to the wines. The focus is on Chardonnay, which accounts for 80% of their plantings. Olivier’s are elevated and linear.
Critical Acclaim
Allen Meadows - Burghound
Outer quote mark Pretty and very fresh aromas of apple, lemon and petrol give way to intense, detailed and bright flavors that are supported by lemon-tinged acidity on the complex and lingering finish. This Chablis-like effort is excellent for its level. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!* Inner quote mark (6/2021)
Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2019 Bourgogne Blanc Les Chatagnière has a taut, flinty nose that opens nicely with aeration. The palate shows good weight with lemon sherbet and light orange zest notes. Fine precision on the finish for a Bourgogne Blanc, Lamy shows that he can produce great white Burgundy without Premier or Village Cru status. (NM) Inner quote mark (12/2020)
88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Outer quote mark Bursting with scents of pear, peach, beeswax and white flowers, the 2019 Bourgogne Les Chataigners is medium to full-bodied, round and fleshy, with lively acids and a precise finish. More concentrated than the 2018 but just as dynamic, it's very promising. (WK) Inner quote mark (1/2021)
