Tasting Notes

Aromas of dried cherry and plum are layered with cedar, tobacco, vanilla, and warm spice. The palate is medium-bodied and refined, balancing mature red fruit with smooth tannins and integrated oak. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering notes of spice and savory depth.

Critical Acclaim:

"Warm spice and licorice notes lace the chopped cherry, green olive, sweet tobacco and vanilla flavors in this well-balanced red. Lightly chewy, with refined tannins and a minerally, tar-tinged finish. Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and Graciano. Drink now through 2036. 16,666 cases made, 5,000 cases imported." - 92 Points, Wine Spectator

Pairing Block

Food Pairing

Rioja Gran Reserva offers evolved structure, integrated oak, and a refined, savory profile that suits dishes with depth and moderate richness. Its layered, mature character works naturally with roasted lamb, braised meats, and mushroom-driven plates like slow-roasted lamb shoulder with herbs or aged cheese with nuts. The wine’s balance of development and freshness allows it to handle slow-cooked, comfort-style fare while maintaining elegance and composure.

About the Producer

Marqués de Cáceres was founded in 1970 by Enrique Forner, whose family had previously been involved in wine production in Rioja before a period of exile in France during the mid-20th century. While in Bordeaux, the family gained experience that later influenced the style of the winery upon their return to Spain. Established in Cenicero, Rioja Alta, the project became an important part of Rioja’s modernization, blending traditional Spanish frameworks with techniques and perspectives shaped by Bordeaux, helping to redefine the region’s international image in the late 20th century.
