Notes: Every wine tells a story. Kopke's Colheitas, however, tell a unique story. To taste a wine is to taste history and, in the case of this 1985 Colheita, it means remembering a remarkable event like the birth of Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the all-time best football players in the world.

Winemaking: The wine-making process includes the halting of fermentation by adding the grape brandy, the blending of different wines and the ageing of the resulting wine. Fermentation takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature of 29°C, until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved, at which point the grape brandy is added. A wine of high quality, made from one single harvest. A Colheita wine matures in oak barrels for periods of time that can vary, but never less than 7 years. It is then bottled and sold according to the demands of the market.

Tasting Notes: A vivid amber colour. Rich and elegant on the nose, with prevailing aromas of dried fruit, well wrapped by fine notes of vanilla and chocolate. An intense and full-bodied wine, yet delicate and well structured. A deep, delicious and persistent finish.

Recommendations: Ideal with walnut and almond cakes. Best served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C.

Awards: Roy Hersh - FTLOP - 93 pts (2015)

About the Producer

Founded in 1638, Kopke is recognized as the oldest Port house in Portugal and a benchmark producer of Colheita (single-vintage Tawny) Ports. Based in Vila Nova de Gaia, the firm sources fruit primarily from its Quinta São Luiz estate in the Douro Valley, where steep, schistous terraces yield concentrated, ageworthy wines. Kopke is known for its mastery of extended cask aging, producing Ports of exceptional depth, balance, and nutty complexity, while maintaining a focus on sustainable viticulture and traditional craftsmanship.
