Taste: The nose opens with bright red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry, followed by subtle notes of rose petal, crushed herbs, and a faint stony edge. On the palate, the fruit remains with juicy red berry tones framed by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Mid-palate texture is silky, with hints of forest floor and spice emerging subtly with air. The finish is clean and persistent, balancing fruit and mineral tension.
Pairing: Pinot Noir from Alsace is at its best with foods that echo its delicacy, brightness, and finely tuned structure. Its light body and vivid acidity make it an easy partner for a wide range of dishes, especially those with gentle richness, herbal depth, or a touch of natural sweetness. In general, aim to match the wine’s medium weight with ingredients and preparations that show freshness and restraint rather than heaviness or spice.
About: Maison Joseph Cattin, based in Voegtlinshoffen just south of Colmar, is the largest family-owned and family-operated winery in Alsace. Perched at 1,091 feet on the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, the estate represents twelve generations of continuous family winemaking since 1720, when François Cattin first began cultivating vines in the aftermath of Alsace’s repopulation by settlers from the Swiss Jura.
