Pierre Sparr in the town of Sigolsheim, part of Kaysersberg Vignoble in the Haut-Rhin, Alsace. The winery is among the most historically linked to the region, with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1680, the year Jean Sparr was born. Over the centuries, the family steadily expanded its holdings and influence, most notably in 1785 when François Pierre Sparr enlarged the estate’s vineyard area.
The current iteration of the domaine began under Charles Sparr in the 1930s, who expanded the business by developing its wine-aging program and trade activities. His son, Pierre Sparr, assumed control of the estate at the age of 20. A pragmatic and forward-thinking operator, Pierre was one of the earliest pioneers of estate bottling in Alsace. He introduced a business-minded approach to branding and distribution, driven by his motto: “invest, progress, and maintain.”
