Tasting Notes

This wine shows a vibrant, medium garnet color in the glass. The nose opens with lifted aromas of wild cherry, crushed violets, and a faint note of damp earth. On the palate, it is supple yet focused, carrying bright red-berry fruit wrapped in taut acidity and fine, lightly grippy tannins. A subtle undercurrent of minerality and savory spice extends through the finish, which is clean, gently persistent, and marked by fresh, sapid red-fruited clarity.

Food Pairing

Morgon’s deeper-fruited, more structured expression of Gamay makes it especially suited to savory dishes with earthy, herbal, or lightly rustic elements. Its combination of dark berry flavors, mineral drive, and firm yet silky tannins complements roasted meats and mushrooms, while its freshness cuts through moderate richness. The wine’s balance of lift and depth pairs best with charcuterie, herb-infused poultry, grilled pork, and dishes where subtle spice or umami bring out its concentrated, terroir-driven character.

About the Producer

Founded in 1981, Domaine Laurent Gauthier is a family estate in Morgon, where Laurent, along with his son Jason, farms about 14 hectares across top sites such as Côte du Py and Grand Cras. Working with old-vine Gamay on granite and schist, the family practices sustainable, low-intervention viticulture and hand harvesting to highlight each parcel’s character. The domaine is known for structured, mineral-driven Morgon with real ageing potential, crafted through traditional semi-carbonic fermentation and careful élevage that showcase the purity and depth of this famed Beaujolais cru.
