Tasting Notes

In the glass, the wine shows a pale straw color with bright highlights. The nose opens with restrained citrus, green apple, and white peach, accompanied by subtle floral notes and a cool, stony edge. On the palate, the wine is taut and focused, with a pronounced sense of lift driven by acidity and altitude. Flavors lean toward lemon peel, crisp pear, and light herbal tones, framed by a fine chalky texture rather than oak-derived richness. The concrete egg and neutral barrel élevage contribute gentle roundness without softening the wine’s linear profile. The finish is clean and persistent, marked by mineral tension and a savory edge.

Pairing Block

Food Pairing

Montagny Premier Cru in this style pairs best with dishes that emphasize freshness, moderate richness, and clean flavors. Think along the lines of roasted or pan-seared poultry, delicate fish preparations, and vegetables treated simply. Classic pairings include roast chicken with lemon and herbs, seared trout with brown butter and capers, or scallops with a light beurre blanc. For a more casual, contemporary meal, try it with grilled shrimp, halibut tacos with citrus and slaw, or a simple pasta with olive oil, garlic, and fresh greens, where the wine’s acidity and mineral structure keep everything focused and balanced.

About the Producer

Founded in 1992 when Stéphane Aladame established his domaine at just 18 years old, this small, family-run estate in Montagny now farms roughly 7 hectares devoted entirely to Chardonnay across several Premier Cru sites. Working with sustainable viticulture and meticulous hand harvesting, Aladame focuses on expressing the limestone-rich soils and cool, elevated slopes of southern Burgundy. Fermentations are carried out with native yeasts and élevage is carefully tailored using a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak, resulting in precise, mineral-driven white Burgundies known for their tension, clarity, and ageworthy structure.
