From/Site: With their dense, clay-based soils, Chassagne's lower lying climats are ideally suited to reds. This wine comes from a parcel of vines planted in the 1960s, a 1.06-hectare plot in the middle of the village. Again, Lamy worked with roughly 50% whole bunches, raised the cuvée in used barrels and did not sulphur the wines at all until bottling. Olivier Lamy's reds are getting more precise and offering more and more finesse. This is a perfect example of this reality and yet again, it is outstanding value.
Critical Acclaim: Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(From 65 year-old vines). Ooh – wow – that’s a beautiful and quite forward width of airy, beautifully fine red fruit – gorgeous. Just a mm or two of cushion here – so wide, faint bitters accent clean red fruit and a finishing bitter that really helps push the length of this mouth-watering wine. So long – what a beauty! 89 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne is fleshy and perfumed, bursting with aromas of plums, red berries, spices and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, with powdery tannins and a succulent core of fruit, this is quite immediate out of the gates in a lighter, more fragrant register than recent sunny vintages. Drink: 2024-2035. (1/18/24)"
The Lamys have been leasing this vineyard for over 70 years but sadly will be handing it back in another 4 years. The current vines were planted in 1950. 50% whole bunch vinification for La Goujonne. Cherry red with an attractive light fruit on the nose. Fresh light cherry-raspberry fruit. Drink from 2025-2027. Tasted Nov 2023. 88 out of 100 points.
