Tasting Notes

65% Zweigelt, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Merlot

In the glass, it’s a deep ruby color with purple edges. Aromas lean toward ripe cherry, plum, and blackberry, supported by subtle notes of cocoa, redcurrant, and a light herbal lift. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with smooth tannins and dark berry fruit at the core. The warm vintage contributes a rounded texture, while Bisamberg’s natural acidity keeps the wine balanced. The finish carries cherry skin, gentle spice, and a touch of chocolate.

Food Pairing

Wien DAC Red’s bright berry fruit, moderate structure, and freshness-driven profile make it highly adaptable to savory dishes with balanced richness. Its combination of juicy cherry tones, gentle spice, and soft tannins complements herbs, roasted vegetables, and leaner meats, while its lively acidity keeps lighter, bistro-style preparations lifted. The wine pairs best with roast chicken, grilled sausages, mushroom-forward plates, and Central European–influenced dishes where subtle spice, earth, and acidity enhance its vibrant, approachable character.

About the Producer

Weingut Wieninger is based in Vienna’s northern districts of Stammersdorf and Bisamberg, an area historically recognized for its mixed agriculture, traditional wine taverns, and a long lineage of field-blend viticulture. The estate is shaped most clearly by Fritz Wieninger, who assumed responsibility for the winery in the late 1980s and helped put Vienna back on the international stage through a focus on quality, single-vineyard expression, and a renewed seriousness toward the region’s hallmark style, Wiener Gemischter Satz.
