Sandrone wines began in the late 1970s with Luciano Sandrone, a visionary winemaker who dreamt of creating world-class wines in the Barolo region. Starting with a modest purchase of a small vineyard in Cannubi Boschis in 1977, Luciano combined traditional winemaking methods with innovative techniques to craft elegant and expressive wines of the region's unique terroir. His first vintage of Barolo, the 1978 Cannubi Boschis, quickly gained recognition for its exceptional quality, solidifying the foundation for the Sandrone legacy.
In the following decades, the Sandrone estate expanded its vineyard holdings across some of the most prestigious sites in Barolo and Roero, including Le Vigne and the fabled Valmaggiore. The meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard and the cellar enabled Sandrone wines to achieve a distinctive style known for their purity, balance, and longevity. Luciano’s philosophy of minimal intervention winemaking, coupled with his unwavering commitment to quality, has consistently resulted in wines that capture the essence of Nebbiolo while expressing a modern elegance.
Today, Sandrone is a family affair, with Luciano's daughter Barbara and brother Luca joining the ranks to continue the legacy Luciano first envisioned. The estate remains firmly rooted in its tradition of crafting Barolo wines that marry the classic structure and depth of the region with contemporary finesse. Their flagship wines, such as the Barolo Le Vigne and Barolo Aleste (formerly Cannubi Boschis), are internationally acclaimed and stand as testaments to the family's passion and dedication.
