Description
From: Ambonnay, Montagne de Reims, Champagne
Varietal: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Taste: The wine presents a pale gold hue with fine, persistent bubbles in the glass. The nose opens with aromas of lemon zest, white peach, and crushed oyster shell, followed by deeper tones of almond skin, dried herbs, and subtle brioche. The wine is taut and linear on the palate, with firm acidity driving flavors of green apple, grapefruit pith, and saline minerality. A subtle creamy texture from barrel aging is balanced by a chalky grip that carries through the long, bone-dry finish.
Pairing: This Champagne’s firm structure, high acidity, and saline finish make it an ideal companion for dishes emphasizing freshness, brine, and mineral elements. Classic pairings like oysters on the half shell or scallop crudo with citrus and herbs highlight its crisp profile. It also works well with tempura-fried vegetables or lightly battered white fish, where the bubbles cut through the fat and lift delicate flavors.
About: Champagne Marguet is based in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, located in the Montagne de Reims subregion of Champagne. The estate, now under the direction of Benoît Marguet, has become one of the most closely watched grower-producers in the region due to its intense focus on biodynamic viticulture, precise micro-vinifications, and terroir expression. While the Marguet family has been cultivating vineyards in Champagne since the late 19th century, the estate as it’s known today was formally established in 1905. In 2005, Benoît Marguet assumed full control of the domaine, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter defined by experimentation, rigor, and a relentless pursuit of purity.
