Description

From: Zarautz, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain
Varietal: Hondarrabi Zuri

Taste: This wine pours a pale, electric salmon-pink with silvery edges and a fine, gentle bead. The nose opens with notes of sour cherry, cranberry skin, and pink grapefruit, followed by fresh-cut herbs and a hint of white pepper. On the palate, it’s brisk and tightly focused, with bright acidity and light phenolic grip.

Pairing: Hondarrabi Beltza’s taut acidity, low alcohol, and delicate herbal notes make this rosé an excellent match for dishes that balance richness, acidity, and crunch. Use the wine’s structure to cut through oily textures, echo herbaceous components, and lift clean, briny flavors. Ideal pairings include marinated mussels, chilled shrimp with pimentón aioli, or tortilla Española with piquillo peppers.

About: Txakoli Primo is situated in the coastal Basque town of Zarautz, located in the province of Gipuzkoa, within Spain’s autonomous Basque Country. The town, renowned for its maritime culture and gastronomic traditions, lies just west of San Sebastián and boasts a striking Atlantic climate that significantly influences the region’s wines. This is txakoli country, where sharp, briny, bright whites have long been part of local culture. Primo is a modern example of a small, terroir-conscious producer reimagining the traditional Basque white wine style with clarity and freshness.
