Description

From: Tassarolo, Gavi, Piedmont, Italy
Varietal: Cortese

Taste: Pale straw in color with greenish reflections. The nose opens with lifted aromas of lemon zest, white peach, and fresh-cut herbs, underscored by saline hints and crushed stone. On the palate, the wine is crisp and medium-bodied, showing citrus and orchard fruit tones layered with green almond and a subtle lees-derived creaminess. The clay soils contribute a rounded mid-palate, while the bâtonnage adds a gentle textural weight that balances the wine’s brisk acidity. The finish is clean and mineral, with a lingering sensation of citrus peel and wet earth.

Pairing: Cortese’s bright acidity and subtle herbal tones make it ideal for dishes that emphasize freshness, lightness, or clean savory elements. Look for preparations that incorporate citrus, green vegetables, seafood, or light broths to complement the wine’s vibrancy.

About: Azienda Vitivinicola La Zerba is located in the commune of Tassarolo, within the broader Gavi area, in Italy’s northwestern Piedmont region. The estate is situated along the Ligurian-Piedmontese Apennine foothills. It is located just outside the town of Gavi itself, an area renowned for the Cortese grape and its flagship DOCG wine, Gavi di Gavi. The vineyards are situated in a contiguous 12-hectare parcel surrounding the winery, resulting in a tightly managed, single-vineyard estate.
