From: Torrecuso, Benevento, Campania, Italy
Varietal: Falanghina
Taste: Pale straw in the glass with green reflections, the wine opens with aromas of lemon zest, crisp pear, and white flowers, accented by a faint herbal note and a hint of sea spray. The palate is fresh and precise, with flavors of citrus, apple, and stone fruit framed by a subtle saline minerality. A lightly rounded mid-palate gives way to a clean, zesty finish marked by citrus peel and a whisper of almond.
Pairing: Falanghina’s brightness and minerality make it a versatile partner for seafood, vegetable-based dishes, and lighter meats. General guidelines: highlight freshness, lean proteins, and aromatic herbs; balance richer elements with the wine’s acidity; and consider southern Italian flavors for regional harmony.
About. Fontanavecchia is based in Torrecuso, a hillside town in the Benevento province of Campania, Italy, within the historic Samnium region. The estate’s origins trace back to the 19th century, when the founder of the Rillo family established the winery, building on generations of family winegrowing. An old register from the Bourbon era notes that more than 160 years ago, the excellent wine of Torrecuso was already being produced by the Rillos, recognizing them as “attentive caretakers of the vines and guardians of the area’s traditions”.
