From: Chavignol, Sancerre, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Taste: In the glass, this rosé is a very pale salmon-pink with glints of copper. The nose opens with notes of wild strawberry, redcurrant, and blood orange, accented by faint hints of rose petal and crushed limestone. On the palate, the wine is dry, precise, and lively, with flavors of tart raspberry, pomegranate seed, and citrus zest. A mineral backbone runs through the mid-palate, giving structure and tension, while the finish is long, stony, and refreshingly saline.
Pairing: This rosé’s balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality makes it a versatile partner for a wide range of dishes. General rules: pair it with foods that highlight herbs, acidity, or gentle char; avoid heavy cream sauces; and use its freshness to cut through salt or spice.
About. Domaine André Neveu is based in the village of Chavignol, just west of Sancerre in France’s Loire Valley. The Neveu family has been tied to the area since the 1600s, when records first mention their vineyards in the hills surrounding the village. The present domaine was established in 1960 by André Neveu, who was among the first in the family to bottle wines under his own name rather than selling grapes or bulk wine. This move came at a pivotal time, as Sancerre was beginning to gain recognition beyond France for its distinctive Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
