Description
From: Moixent, Valencia, Spain
Varietal: Malvasía
Taste:
This Malvasía pours a pale, straw-yellow with greenish highlights. On the nose, it opens with vivid aromas of citrus peel, sliced apple, ripe pear, and stone fruit, complemented by subtle almond-pastry notes and hints of herbal notes, with a salty lift. The palate is bright and textural, showcasing crisp acidity and flavors of nectarine, lemon zest, and crushed white flowers, along with a subtle chalky salinity.
Pairing: Malvasía’s aromatic lift and mineral edge make it an ideal complement to dishes that emphasize freshness, acidity, and delicate textures. Opt for simply prepared seafood, such as grilled calamari with lemon and parsley, or a citrus-marinated crudo. Salads with shaved fennel, oranges, and olive oil, or dishes that feature green herbs like herbed couscous or tabbouleh, will complement its floral and citrus-driven notes.
About: Pago Casa Gran is situated in Moixent, a historic village in the interior of Valencia’s Clariano subzone, within the Valencia Designation of Origin (DO). The estate is located alongside the Canyoles River and spans a diverse landscape that has supported viticulture for over three centuries. With documented cultivation dating back centuries, the estate blends legacy and modernity under a philosophy of organic integrity, sustainable innovation, and terroir transparency.
Manuela Galbis is the head of the modern version of the winery as it is known today.. Following the passing of her father, she assumed ownership and leadership of the estate at just 18 years old, a rare position for a young woman in Spain’s male-dominated agricultural sector in the 1960s.
