Description
From: Cannubi, Barolo, Italy
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Taste: The wine is ruby-red with garnet edges. The nose is fragrant and precise, opening with notes of sour cherry, pomegranate, and rosehip, followed by subtler hints of anise, dried mint, and crushed stone. On the palate, it exhibits lift and definition, with high-toned red fruit notes of cranberry, blood orange, and red currant, framed by firm yet polished tannins. A line of salinity and fine acidity runs through the mid-palate, lending a sense of movement and clarity. The finish is long and detailed, marked by a touch of citrus peel and powdered earth. Youthful and vibrant, yet quietly structured.
Pairing: Langhe Nebbiolo’s firm acidity and fine tannins make it an great to for dishes that emphasize savory depth, umami, or aromatic herbs. Start with general rules: pair with protein to buffer tannins, balance acidity with bright ingredients, and lean into earthy or bittersweet elements to match the wine’s complexity.
About: Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno is based in the village of Barolo, where the family estate has produced wine from the Cannubi hill since the 1890s. What began as a tavern operation by Cavalier Francesco Borgogno in the mid-19th century, selling his own wine in his wife’s small osteria, has evolved into one of the region’s most steadfast family-owned wineries. Today, the estate continues under the direction of the fifth generation: Anna and Paola Borgogno, their daughters Federica Boffa and Emanuela Bolla, and Anna’s husband, Marco Bolla.
