Description

From: Cannubi, Barolo, Italy
Varietal: Barbera

Taste: In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant ruby color with violet edges. The nose opens with notes of wild cherry, red plum, and raspberry, accented by hints of violet, sweet spice, and a trace of iron-rich earth. The palate is medium-bodied but zesty, driven by the grape’s naturally high acidity, which gives lift and energy to the ripe red fruit core. Bright flavors of sour cherry, pomegranate, and a touch of licorice carry through to the mid-palate, framed by fine-grained tannins. The wine finishes with a burst of cranberry and a lingering savory edge.

Pairing: Barbera’s signature acidity and moderate tannin make it one of the most versatile red wines at the table. Pair it with dishes that have rich, savory, or acidic elements—especially those featuring tomatoes, herbs, or braised meats. Try it with a tomato-based mushroom ragù over polenta or a roasted chicken with rosemary, garlic, and lemon.

About: Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno is based in the village of Barolo, where the family estate has produced wine from the Cannubi hill since the 1890s. What began as a tavern operation by Cavalier Francesco Borgogno in the mid-19th century, selling his own wine in his wife’s small osteria, has evolved into one of the region’s most steadfast family-owned wineries. Today, the estate continues under the direction of the fifth generation: Anna and Paola Borgogno, their daughters Federica Boffa and Emanuela Bolla, and Anna’s husband, Marco Bolla.
