Taste: In the glass, its a deep ruby color with youthful purple highlights—aromas open with ripe black cherry and cassis, accented by subtle floral notes of violet. The palate is medium-bodied and concentrated, with flavors of dark berry fruit, black cherries, and hints of spice and earth.
Pairing: Fleurie thrives when paired with dishes that balance savory richness, herbal lift, and a touch of char. To get the most out of it, think about a few rules: let its acidity refresh richer foods, match its medium body with dishes of similar weight, and lean into flavors that align with Gamay’s mix of bright fruit and earthy depth. The wine’s tannins can also handle a bit of smoke or spice, making it more versatile than many expect.
About: Clos de la Roilette is based in Fleurie, in Beaujolais, and is one of the most distinctive estates in the appellation. The domaine takes its name from the lieu-dit itself, a nine-hectare clos on one of the region’s finest slopes. The vineyard faces east, borders the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, and is planted entirely to Gamay. Thanks to its position and soils—mainly clay with veins of manganese—the wines combine the perfume and elegance associated with Fleurie with the depth and structure more typical of Moulin-à-Vent.
