From: Puy de Dome IGP, Loire Valley, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Taste: This lovely Pinot Noir from the Auvergne is fresh, breezy, and red-fruited. A pronounced minerality underscores notes of wild strawberries, Morello cherries, pomegranate, and beetroot. Those bright red fruit flavors are central on the palate, and hints of baking spice, orange zest, and garden beetroot highlight them. Smooth, silky tannins lead to an inviting, clean finish.
Pairing: You’ve got many pairing options for this lovely red wine. Picnic fares like ham and cheese buns or jambon-beurre baguettes, fried chicken, roasted chicken or pork with caramelized shallots and potatoes, roast turkey and gravy, Swedish meatballs, anything with mushroom, roasted vegetables (especially butternut squash— check out the recipe below!), rice or farro dishes, pasta with Mediterranean herbs and olive oil, meals based around umami flavors, roasted or grilled salmon, sausage and polenta or a parmesan/mushroom polenta, etc. Any way you go, it’ll be delicious!

The Desprot family has been making wines in Auvergne since 1885. Volcons d'Auvergne is managed by the 5th generation Pierre Desprot and his two daughters, Leo & Lucie.
