Tasting Notes

In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color with purple edges. Aromas lean toward black cherry, blackberry, and a touch of dried herb, supported by subtle hints of tobacco leaf and crushed stone. The palate is medium to full-bodied, carrying dark fruit with a clean line of acidity that keeps the wine lifted rather than heavy. Tannins are fine-grained and slightly firm, consistent with Montepulciano grown on clay-limestone soils, and the finish brings together fruit, spice, and a faint savory note.

Critical Acclaim:

"The nose is fresh, cool and lightly herbaceous, with aromas of damp earth, wet stones, tart blackberries, coffee grinds and fresh thyme. Ripe black cherries and sweet blackberries define the palate, until a dark chocolate finish. Tannins are dense and polished, while acid sleekly outlines the palate of a wine that perfectly straddles the space between intrigue and simple pleasure." 92 Wine Enthusiast, Danielle Callegari

Food Pairing

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo’s dark fruit, savory spice, and generous yet approachable tannins make it especially well-suited to hearty, rustic dishes. Its combination of black cherry and plum depth with earthy, herbal notes complements tomato-based sauces, grilled meats, and robust, slow-cooked preparations, while its natural acidity keeps richer textures balanced. The wine pairs best with pizza and pasta with red sauce, roasted lamb or pork, aged cheeses, and Abruzzese-inspired dishes where umami, herbs, and gentle spice highlight its bold, comforting character.

About the Producer

Torre Zambra is the flagship estate of the Famiglia De Cerchio Wine Group and the property that anchors the family’s long history in Abruzzo. The winery is based in Villamagna, a small commune in the province of Chieti, where the De Cerchio family has worked in viticulture and agriculture since the mid-twentieth century. While the broader group now includes projects in other parts of Italy, Torre Zambra remains their most historically significant estate and the center of their identity in Abruzzo.
