Taste Block

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with vivid red fruit of cherry, wild strawberry, and pomegranate,  with notes of dried thyme, garrigue, and a hint of cracked pepper. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and vibrant, emphasizing lift and energy over weight. Juicy red fruit leads, framed by fine, chalky tannins and a subtle saline edge that adds tension through the mid-palate.

Pairing Block

Food Pairing

This wine thrives alongside dishes that highlight herbs, acidity, and moderate richness rather than heavy fats or creamy sauces. Think of ingredients and preparations that echo the southern Rhône’s balance of fruit and spice. Grilled or roasted poultry with rosemary and lemon captures its freshness, while lamb with herbes de Provence underscores its savory dimension.

Producer Block

About the Producer

The estate covers 20 hectares (50 acres) of old vines in a single contiguous block, an uncommon feature in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These vineyards are divided among Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Les Trois Sources,” Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Les Hauts-Lieux,” and both red and white Côtes du Rhône “Clavin.” This north-facing site, protected by the slopes and its singular microclimate, has proven remarkably resilient amid the extreme conditions now typical of the southern Rhône. It is this unique exposure that allows La Vieille Julienne to produce wines of balance, tension, and poise even in warm vintages.
