Taste: The wine pours a saturated ruby with bluish edges. The nose leads with redcurrant, wild blackberry, and crushed violets layered over savory undertones of iron and dried herbs. On the palate, it’s precise and vibrant, with a taut line of acidity cutting through dark berry fruit, sour cherry, and a flicker of black pepper. The volcanic soils express themselves through a firm, stony structure and subtle smokiness. Tannins are fine but present, carrying through to a long, linear finish with notes of granite and licorice root.

Pairing: Gamay from the Côte de Brouilly, with its mineral backbone and vibrant acidity, pairs well with dishes that balance earth, brightness, and texture. Start with general pairing principles: choose foods that highlight acidity, lean proteins, and savory herbal or umami notes.

About: Jean-Paul Brun is a highly regarded winemaker from Beaujolais, renowned for his dedication to traditional winemaking and minimal intervention techniques. In 1979, he established Domaine des Terres Dorées in Charnay, a village in the southern region of Beaujolais.

Food Pairing

Classic Beaujolais Gamay’s vibrant red fruit, bright acidity, and supple tannins make it especially versatile with fresh, savory, and lightly rustic dishes. Its mix of fruit, and subtle floral notes complements herbs, mild spices, and vegetable-driven preparations, while its lift keeps richer or saltier foods feeling balanced. The wine’s easy charm and food-friendly structure pair best with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled vegetables, and simple bistro-style fare where brightness and delicacy are key.

About the Producer

Founded in 1979, Jean-Paul Brun’s Domaine des Terres Dorées has grown from a tiny cellar in Charnay into one of Beaujolais’s most respected independent estates, now farming roughly 45 hectares across both southern Beaujolais and top crus such as Morgon, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent. Brun champions traditional, Burgundian-style winemaking—hand harvesting, native yeasts, gentle pressing, and long fermentations—to highlight Gamay’s natural finesse rather than carbonic-driven fruitiness. Known for pure, mineral-driven reds and expressive Chardonnay from limestone-rich soils, the domaine’s low-intervention, sustainably farmed vineyards yield wines prized for their elegance, clarity, and unmistakable sense of place.
