Description

From: El Vendrell, Baix Penedès, Catalonia, Spain
Varietal: Xarel·lo, Macabeu, Malvasia de Sitges

Taste: In the glass, the wine is a pale gold with a faint green hue. Aromatics are vivid and Mediterranean, with layers of chamomile, white orchard blossoms, white peach, lime zest, and sea fennel. On the palate, the wine is crisp and structured, with a saline and lime backbone, complemented by soft orchard fruit, citrus lift, and a touch of floral bitterness. The finish is mineral, citrusy, and dry, with persistent tension and a lingering note of citrus peel.

Pairing: The wine’s firm acidity, herbal tones, and subtle phenolic grip make it highly versatile with food. Start by pairing with dishes that emphasize fresh herbs, citrus, or saline elements; avoid overly creamy textures unless balanced by acidity; and lean into dishes with Mediterranean or coastal flavors. Grilled cuttlefish or sepia with aioli is a natural pairing, as is a fennel-citrus salad accompanied by an anchovy vinaigrette.

About: Bodega Jané Ventura is located in the town of El Vendrell, in the Baix Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain. Situated just a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast, this family-run winery has established itself as a benchmark for Penedès wines made from indigenous grape varieties and minimal intervention. The estate’s history dates back to 1914, when Josep Jané i Coca began trading and distributing local wines in the region. The family’s direct involvement in winemaking began in 1930 with the construction of their cellar. It continued with the acquisition of the El Vendrell winery estate in 1954 by the second generation, Albert Jané Jané. However, it wasn't until 1985 that the modern project of Jané Ventura as a bottling estate was formally established by Josep Jané Ventura, the third generation of the family to work in the wine industry.
