Tasting Notes

92% Sangiovese, 4% Canaiolo, 4% Colorino

Critical Acclaim:

93 Points, Falstaff. “Pronounced ruby red colour with a dark shimmer. The nose opens fruity, clearly blood orange, later sugared cherries, also violets. Elegant and juicy on the palate with a lovely flow. The tannins are well integrated, the finish is persistent and fine, has benefited from bottle ageing!"

91 Points, James Suckling. "Bright and fruit-forward on the nose, with kirsch, raspberries, candied orange peel and red spices. The medium-bodied palate is vivid and tense, with a backbone of velvety tannins and lively acidity. Poised and lingering."

93 Points, Vinous. “The 2023 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Rich and layered in the glass, the 2023 impresses with its purity and exceptional balance. Strong spice, leather and tobacco notes run through a core of red Sangiovese fruit. All the elements are so well balanced. Dollops of Canaiolo and Colorino are so well put together. This is a sublime wine. Truly exceptional."

Food Pairing

Chianti Classico’s vibrant acidity, red-cherry purity, and earthy, herbal nuance make it especially suited to savory dishes with Mediterranean flavors. Its combination of bright fruit, firm yet food-friendly tannins, and subtle spice complements tomato-based sauces, grilled meats, and dishes featuring olive oil and aromatic herbs, while its structure keeps richer textures lifted. The wine pairs best with pasta al pomodoro, bistecca alla fiorentina, roasted poultry, and Tuscan-inspired plates where acidity, herbs, and gentle umami underscore its classic Sangiovese character.

About the Producer

Rocca di Montegrossi is located in the Monti district of Gaiole, one of the historic centers of Chianti Classico. The estate sits close to the site of the medieval Montegrossoli fortress, a strategic stronghold documented as early as the 12th century. Its long connection to this part of Gaiole ties it to the early formation of Chianti’s winegrowing identity, shared by branches of the Ricasoli lineage that have shaped the region’s development over the centuries.
