Description
From: La Morra, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Taste: In the glass, this is a vivid ruby hue with garnet undertones. The nose opens with aromas of fresh cherry, rose petals, and blood orange, layered with hints of menthol, anise, and crushed stone. On the palate, the wine is taut and focused, with linear tannins and high-toned acidity framing flavors of sour cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate. A subtle earthy depth and mineral streak carry through the mid-palate, followed by a finish that is long, clean, and dusted with notes of dried herbs and citrus peel. The texture is firm but polished, with a mouthwatering drive that makes it particularly compelling in youth.
Pairing: Nebbiolo’s high acidity and structured tannins make it well-suited for pairing with dishes that are rich, umami-rich, or acidic. Start with general principles: pair with proteins that offer fat or savoriness, match the wine’s brightness with tomato-based sauces, and bring in herbal or bitter greens to complement its floral and mineral tones. Traditional Piedmontese dishes, such as tajarin with veal ragù or vitello tonnato, complement the wine’s savory side
About: Roberto Voerzio is based in the town of La Morra, a hillside commune within the Barolo zone of Piedmont, Italy. This area is widely regarded for producing some of the most elegant and age-worthy expressions of Nebbiolo, and Voerzio’s estate has earned a singular reputation for exacting vineyard work, low yields, and powerful yet precise wines. The winery was officially founded in 1986 when Roberto took control of a portion of his family’s vineyards and began bottling wine under his name. His son, Davide Voerzio, now works closely with him in both the vineyard and winery, representing a new generation within the estate.
