Description

From: Etna, Sicily, Italy
Varietal:
Carricante

Taste: Pale straw with greenish highlights, it opens with a nose of fresh lemon peel, white flowers, and wet stone, underpinned by subtle hints of green apple and fennel. The palate is textured yet linear, showcasing Carricante’s hallmark acidity and salinity. Notes of grapefruit, crushed herbs, and flint weave through a citrus and orchard fruit core. The finish is long and precise, with a mineral-driven edge and lingering citrus zest.

Pairing:
Carricante’s firm acidity and mineral tension make this a good pairing with clean flavors, bright seasoning, and a saline or citrusy edge. Begin by aligning the wine’s structure with foods that emphasize acidity or highlight natural umami—think simply grilled seafood, herbed poultry, or fresh vegetable preparations. Traditional Sicilian dishes like swordfish involtini with capers and lemon or spaghetti con le sarde play seamlessly with the wine’s citrus and herbal tones.

About: Founded in 1983 by Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella Anca Rallo, Donnafugata was created as a forward-thinking project distinct from the family’s historic Marsala business, which had been active since the early 19th century. The vision from the start was to produce terroir-driven wines that reflect the multifaceted nature of Sicily—its island diversity, viticultural heritage, and potential for quality wines on an international scale.
