Description
From: Castelnuovo Berardenga, Clhianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
Varietal: Sangiovese
Taste: In the glass, the wine shows a vivid ruby hue with bright garnet edges. Aromas lift with sour cherry, pomegranate, black currant, and dried rose, followed by subtle hints of cedar, leather, and crushed herbs. The palate opens with tension and energy. Fresh red berries and a hint of orange peel sit atop a framework of firm yet polished tannins. Underneath, the clay-limestone soils lend a faint mineral edge, while notes of blood orange, dried thyme, and anise linger on the finish, which is long, savory, and clean.
Pairing: Sangiovese’s natural acidity and tannic backbone make it an ideal complement to dishes with spicy, herbal, or tomato-driven components. The Alteo pairs well with roasted meats, such as pork shoulder with rosemary and garlic, or grilled lamb skewers with oregano.
About: Donna Laura Wines operates in Castelnuovo Berardenga, a commune located in the southeastern corner of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany. The project began in 2004 as a personal tribute by Lia Tolaini-Banville to her Aunt Laura, a woman whose cultural influence and familial ties shaped Lia’s identity as a mother, vintner, and businesswoman.
