Tasting Notes

Critical Acclaim:

94-96 points Burghound
Note: from two very large parcels of vines totaling over 3 ha Firm reduction and a whiff of oak dominate the nose at present. Much more interesting are the beautifully textured, racy and detailed medium weight flavors that also possess a highly sophisticated mouthfeel while exhibiting stunningly good length on the bitter zest-inflected finish that goes on and on. This is terrific and easily delivers grand cru quality. *Burghound Don't MIss!! Outstanding!!* (6/2023)

94-96 points Jasper Morris
Mid lemon colour. As always, the bouquet rises above the others. I feel the need to keep on sniffing this! Brings a smile to the face. The 2021 Domaine Leflaive Pucelles offers such a complex mix of fruits, fresh apricot along with a mix of quality citrus, good density but above all a stylishness that expresses itself in a hugely long finish. Perfect balance with a lifted fresh elegance at the finish. This may yet earn a fifth star later in life. Drink from 2027-2035. (4/2023)

95 points Wine Spectator
Seamless in texture and balance, this white caresses the palate with honey, butter, peach, apple and lemon cake flavors. Harmonious and approachable now, yet this will continue to improve over the next five years. Shows fine length, with a toasty, spicy aftertaste. Drink now through 2035. —B.S. (1/2024)

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Half as harvest here – but that’s double our yield from Folatières!’ More direct, similarly vibrant less open with a touch of reduction today. More vibrant energy – ooh that’s going to be something special – such an agrume complexity delivered with dynamism – great wine in the making!" (05/2023)

About the Producer

Domaine Leflaive, rooted in Puligny-Montrachet since 1717, has grown from Claude Leflaive’s early vineyards into one of Burgundy’s leading Chardonnay estates, now spanning 24 hectares in Puligny along with additional holdings in the Mâconnais. Built by Joseph Leflaive in the early 20th century and carried forward by later generations, the domaine is known for its early and full embrace of biodynamics, a shift led by Anne-Claude in the 1990s to restore soil health and sharpen terroir expression. The wines follow classic Burgundian methods: long, natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts, aging first in oak then in stainless steel, and light lees stirring. Today the domaine remains family-run under Brice de La Morandière, who continues its focus on vineyard vitality, precise winemaking, and the pursuit of purity across its grands and premiers crus.
