De Forville is a historic, family-run estate based in the village of Barbaresco, with roots dating back to the 19th century. The winery was originally founded by a French family and later came under the stewardship of the Cavalli family, who continue to run the estate today. De Forville has long been recognized for producing traditional, site-transparent Barbaresco wines that emphasize structure, balance, and longevity over modern ripeness or heavy oak influence.
Viticulture at De Forville is focused on careful parcel management, low yields, and hand harvesting, with vineyards located in some of Barbaresco’s most respected zones, including sites near Ovello and Loreto. In the cellar, fermentations are typically carried out in stainless steel, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak botti. This approach preserves Nebbiolo’s aromatic profile and structural integrity while allowing the wines to develop gradually over time.
