From: Southern Rhône, France
Blend: 50% Grenache, 30% Clairette, 10% Syrah, 10% Cinsault
Taste: Notes of raspberries, wild strawberries, a hint of orange blossom, and minerality. A tangle of briary fruits envelopes your senses as you dive in for a sip – blackberry and raspberry – especially the wild variety, with their brighter acidity and ripe/tart balance! Hints of Provencal herbs on the finish bring it all together in a lovely blanket of summery goodness.
Pairing: Ali Slagle’s NYT recipe for Grilled Chicken with Parsley-Olive Sauce is a dish that will reflect the citrus and herbal notes in the wine, which will allow the richness of fruit in the wine to really shine.
Ah… Tavel… the only appellation in the Rhone Valley to produce nothing but rose wine. Not just any rose, either - Tavel is considered by most of the “cognoscenti” to produce the finest rose in all the world! It is also one of the few that can actually age and improve with age!
We've been looking for a great representation of the region for a while now, and we finally found a Tavel rose that reminds us of some of the best examples of the region. Long story short, winemaker Florian Andre spent three years apprenticing with the legendary Christophe Delorme at Domaine de la Mordorée...which explains a lot in terms of style and an obvious eye for quality.
