From: Tavel, Southern Rhone, France
Blend: 50% Grenache, 10% Cinsault, 10% Syrah and 30% Clairette
Taste: Notes of raspberries, wild strawberries, a hint of orange blossom and minerality. A tangle of briary fruits envelopes your senses as you dive in for a sip – blackberry and raspberry – especially the wild variety, with their brighter acidity and ripe/tart balance! Hints of Provencal herbs on the finish bring it all together in a lovely blanket of summery goodness.
Ah… Tavel… the only appellation in the Rhone Valley to produce nothing but rose wine. Not just any rose, either - Tavel is considered by most of the “cognoscenti” to produce the finest rose in all the world! It is also one of the few that can actually age and improve with age!
We've been looking for a great representation of the region for a while now, and we finally found a Tavel rose that reminds us of some of the best examples of the region. Long story short, winemaker Florian Andre spent three years apprenticing with the legendary Christophe Delorme at Domaine de la Mordoree...which explains a lot in terms of style and an obvious eye for quality.
