Description

From: Saint-Vérand, Beaujolais, France
Varietal: Gamay

Taste: This is a pale, silvery salmon hue. Aromatically, it’s expressive with crushed red currants, wild strawberry, and Rainier cherry lead, followed by floral hints of geranium and dried rose petals. The palate is clean and nervy, with racy acidity carrying flavors of tart cherry, cranberry, and grapefruit peel. A faint mineral bitterness and citrus pith note builds on the mid-palate, giving the wine a zesty, almost tonic-like precision. The finish is brisk and dry, with a lingering echo of sour cherry and crushed white pepper.

Pairing: Gamay rosé thrives with dishes that emphasize acidity, freshness, and delicate textures. Its dry, high-acid profile makes it especially good with food that’s chilled, spiced, or herbaceous. Pair with vegetable-driven starters like shaved fennel and radish salad, chilled soba noodles with sesame dressing, or herbed couscous with lemon and mint. The wine’s red fruit and tangy backbone also match well with seared albacore tuna, Dungeness crab toast with chili aioli, or a salmon and watermelon poke bowl

About: Pierre-Marie Chermette and his Domaine du Vissoux are based in Saint-Vérand, a small commune in the southern Beaujolais region of France, located just west of Lyon and nestled in the Monts du Lyonnais. Though now widely respected for his detailed work across Beaujolais’ crus, Chermette’s operation began humbly small and has evolved steadily without chasing trends or abandoning its traditional viticulture.
