From: Torrecuso, Benevento, Campania, Italy
Varietal: Aglianico
Taste: In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby hue. Aromas open with dark-toned fruit like wild cherry, black plum, and blackberry layered with hints of bitter cocoa, coffee, and subtle dark florals and underbrush. The palate is on the lighter side for a medium-bodied wine. Yet firmly structured, with smooth, integrated tannins and moderate acidity. Notes of forest floor and warm spice over notes of black cherry, plum skin. The finish is clean and persistent, carrying a mix of dark fruit and savory-earthy tones.
Pairing: Aglianico del Taburno’s structure and depth make it a natural partner for savory, full-flavored dishes. General pairings: look for dishes with richness or slow-cooked depth, highlight herbal and smoky elements, and balance the wine’s tannins with proteins or umami-rich vegetables.
About. Fontanavecchia is based in Torrecuso, a hillside town in the Benevento province of Campania, Italy, within the historic Samnium region. The estate’s origins trace back to the 19th century, when the founder of the Rillo family established the winery, building on generations of family winegrowing. An old register from the Bourbon era notes that more than 160 years ago, the excellent wine of Torrecuso was already being produced by the Rillos, recognizing them as “attentive caretakers of the vines and guardians of the area’s traditions”.
