From: Abymes, Savoie, France
Varietal: Jacquère
Taste: In the glass, the 2023 Abymes is pale straw with green reflections, a hallmark of Jacquère. The nose opens with mountain herbs, white flowers, and citrus zest, accented by notes of pear, green apple, and a faint stony edge. On the palate, it is light-bodied and vibrant, driven by brisk acidity and flavors of lemon, green melon, and orchard fruit. A subtle saline lift underscores the freshness, while a chalky mineral note adds precision through the mid-palate. The finish is clean and refreshing, with lingering notes of citrus peel and crushed stone.
Pairing: This Abymes is a wine that shines with fresh, light, and mineral-driven cuisine. When pairing, keep in mind three general rules: lean toward seafood and freshwater fish, highlight green or herbal components, and avoid heavy cream sauces or dishes that would overpower its delicacy.
About. Comprised of 10 hectares of vines, Domaine Labbé is located 15 km south of Chambéry, a village famous for its Vermouth and cheese. Domaine Labbé was founded by the fathers of cousins Alexandra and Jérome Labbe in 1975. At the time, their parents were subsistence farmers cultivating a little bit of everything, including milk, cows, beef, hay, wheat, and some table grapes. To survive economically, one brother, a charcutier (pork butcher), and the other, a construction entrepreneur, worked with the vines on the weekends and planted Jacquère in their spare time. Alexandra inherited the domaine in 2004.
