Taste: From the Producer: “Deep intense color: purple, carmine and shiny. The nose opens with aromas of small black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberries) and is extended with fine floral notes: peony, violet. Notes of spices and grilled. On the palate, the wine is delicate with a beautiful amplitude. The finish is balanced and silky.”

Pairing: For American holiday fare, the wine shines alongside a prime rib roast with herb crust, where its black fruit and spice notes complement the rich, savory flavors of the beef, while its balanced finish cuts through the richness. Similarly, it pairs beautifully with smoked turkey glazed with cranberry, as the wine’s delicacy and fruit-forward profile enhance the smokiness and tart-sweet glaze. Glazed sweet potatoes with pecans find a match in the wine’s floral and spice nuances, which play beautifully with the dish’s caramelized sweetness. For a savory vegetable option, green bean casserole with crispy onions is elevated by the wine’s subtle charred notes and delicate structure.

About: Château La Caussade is a historic family-owned winery in Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, Bordeaux. The Armand family has managed the estate for generations, with three generations currently involved. The family’s viticulture history dates back to the early 20th century, beginning as agricultural laborers before acquiring vineyards in Sainte-Croix-du-Mont. They formally established Château La Caussade in the 1930s.

The family strongly believes in quality without compromise, as expressed in its motto: “Sans concession ni partage, la qualité avant tout !” or "Without concession or sharing, quality above all!" Augustin Allo Armand, representing the eighth generation, has joined the business, bringing a modern approach to engaging wine enthusiasts through digital communication.

Food Pairing

Merlot-dominant Bordeaux Rouge’s supple texture, dark-toned fruit, and moderate structure make it adaptable to a wide range of savory, comforting dishes. Its ripe plum and black cherry profile complements herbs, earthy elements, and slow-cooked flavors, while its polished tannins and balanced acidity suit lean-to-moderate richness in proteins. Subtle oak spice supports dishes with roasted notes, and the wine’s overall harmony pairs best with herb-infused meats, braised preparations, and simply seasoned, elegant fare.

About the Producer

Founded in the 1930s, Château La Caussade has long been cared for by the Armand family in the hills of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont and Cadillac on Bordeaux’s right bank. The estate spans roughly 6 hectares of clay-limestone vineyard parcels, including fossil-rich slopes that naturally favor both vibrant dry whites and richly textured sweet wines. Known for producing expressive Sauvignon- and Sémillon-based whites, refined Merlot-Cabernet reds, and the region’s hallmark aromatic sweet wines.
