Pairing: For a pure Sangiovese like this, look for dishes that balance richness with acidity and herbal depth. Tomato-based sauces, roasted meats, and earthy vegetables are natural matches.
Critical Acclaim: “Cherry, raspberry, leather, tobacco and earth flavors mingle in this dry, chalky red. Starts out juicy, with spice accents midpalate before the burly tannins pinch the finish. Best from 2027 through 2040. 558 cases made, 150 cases imported.” 91 Points, Wine Spectator
About: Avignonesi is based in Montepulciano, southern Tuscany, and is one of Italy’s leading producers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The estate’s origins date back to the 16th century, but its current form was established in 1974, when the Falvo family sought to modernize and enhance winemaking quality. In 2009, Belgian entrepreneur Virginie Saverys acquired the winery and redirected its focus toward environmental responsibility, organic and biodynamic farming practices, and transparency in production.
